Last days with Dieuwer and then..... moving to Wijchen

Thursday, August 20, 2015

Dieuwer has arrived on Wedneday, but stays the night with one of her children.  I am staying the morning in Houten with Gerrie and we do some shopping at the market.  I seem to keep buying clothes, as there is this beautiful pink shirt hanging in one of the stalls, so I pick it up very cheap: 5 euros!

lunch al fresco

After lunch it's really time to go back to Vreeland.  On the way I pick up Dieuwer at Abcoude, who is glad to be back home, but apparently had a great time in Australia.

On Friday we have a whole day together, Dieuwer and I, and as Dieuwer asked what I would like to do my choice is going for a bike ride.  I can't get enough of it in this country and on the oh so different bikes from those in Australia!

We ride to Breukelen and back.  In Breukelen we walk around the markets, which are on, and sit down for a cool drink before we make our way back.

We get up early, because today Leonie and Ferdi arrive.  We have to pick them up at the airport at 7 in the morning.  The plane has landed early and they have come through customs very quickly, so they are already waiting at the meeting point when we arrive.

Dieuwer has been so kind as to offer to drop the three of us off at Wijchen, because Jack and Mayke have too small a car to carry three people and their luggage.  We would have otherwise needed to make the trip by train.

The car may be small, but the house in Wijchen is big.  Quite different from Dieuwer's, but by no means better.  Every place has its own charm.  It's actually very similar to the house I stayed in last year in Liempde.

As we arrive Jack and Mayke are waiting for us and Dieuwer takes her leave.  It's strange to say goodbye so quickly again, but we have to.  Jack and Mayke have a cup of coffee with us and instruct us about the main things about the house we need to know.  Then we're on our own...

In the afternoon we try out the car and find the nearest supermarket to stock up for the next few days.  We also find a telephone shop where Leonie and Ferdi get the main necessities to be able to be in touch with the rest of the world. :-)

We have dinner next and an early night for Leonie and Ferdi.
